Spalding RFC kicked off their Midlands One East (North) campaign with an impressive win at Bakewell Mannerians on Saturday.

Town, relegated from Midlands One East last term, picked up a fine 29-17 away victory at one of the toughest away trips they’ll make all season.

But Deepings and Bourne both suffered opening day defeats. Deepings were beaten 18-15 by St Ives in Midlands Three East (South), while Bourne suffered a 31-7 derby defeat at the hands of Stamford College Old Boys in Midlands Four East (South).
