Niall Thomson wants Spalding RFC to rediscover their early season form on Saturday – and give their fans something to cheer about.

Town laboured to an 19-10 triumph over lowly Kesteven last Saturday to stay firmly in the hunt for the Midlands Two East (N) title.

But coach Thomson is demanding more from his side ahead of Saturday’s tough Memorial Field test against Loughborough (2.15pm).

He said: “I’m not overly happy with our performances as of late. We never looked in any danger at Kesteven, but it was all very disjointed.

“Saturday won’t be easy, we only just sneaked a win at their place. We’re going to try and freshen things up, we need to get back to where we were at the start of the season.

“We’re extremely appreciative of our home support, you can’t underestimate how much of a boost they give the lads. Hopefully we can deliver a performance for them.”

Spalding, who are one point behind leaders Belgrave, are expected to hand starts to Ian Knight (front row) and Tom Duerden (second row), while Ed Booth should return to the back line. Winger Andy Lal misses out, though.
