Old Northamptonians v Spalding RFC (Saturday, 3pm): THE Midlands One East fixtures don’t get any easier for rock-bottom Town as they visit one of the league’s big hitters.

A hefty 21 points separate the two teams after just five games, but Spalding did show signs of improvement in last weekend’s 33-13 home loss to Matlock.

Skipper Harry Sharman, who is almost fit to return from his ankle ligament injury, admits his troops just need a win to boost their confidence.

He said: “It’s another tough one for us. Saturday was much better and it’d be just like us to win a tough game like this.

“Hopefully things will click soon, we need that first win to improve the morale. There have been positives, we just need to build on them now.”

Kev Childs and Sion Williams make welcome returns to the squad, but Dave Hankinson and youngster Harry Harrison both miss out. Rob Lucas will start at nine after a top show against Matlock.
