Queens 7 Deepings 22: The first away game of the season for Deepings was a convincing win.

With some subtle changes to the team there was a marked improvement on last week. Deepings controlled the game from the start and vice-captain Ali Shaw led from the front scoring two tries in the first ten minutes both were converted by Nick Dobie. Queens struck back unleashing some pace they ran the wing and cut across the field to score under the posts. Deepings hit back through last weeks Man of the Match, centre George Offer.

The second half held lots of rain as a thunderstorm passed over but very little points wise. A stalemate between the teams as they took turns in attacking but failing to cross each others try line. The only points came from the boot of Deepings replacement fly-half Steve Capper, who kicked a penalty.

For his inspirational performance Ali Shaw was awarded Man of the Match.

Deepings Vets 57 Peterborough Vets 21

Deepings Vets’ first game of the season went well.

The game ended with the ceremonial burning of Peterborough players Dave Harrison’s boots. Dave started his playing days at Deepings when he came out of the Army at 40 years old and moved to play at Peterborough ten years ago.

Dave said: “I started playing at Deeping, I decided it was time to finally pack up at the end of last season but it meant more to me to stop where I started so I hung on till today.

“It’s a shame about the result but I enjoyed my last match.”

Hitchin Ladies 0 Deepings Devils 0 (AWO)

The RFU decided to award Deepings a win in their first match of the season.

After travelling down to Hitchin on Sunday afternoon, Deepings learned that the home side could not field a team.
