Spalding RFC coach Niall Thomson has called on his side to stay focused for every minute of their remaining fixtures.

Thomson was disappointed that his side let a 19-3 lead slip last time out when they eventually drew 27-27 with Oakham and he has rammed home the importance of keeping their concentration.

Spalding, second in Midlands Two East (North) but eight points behind Belgrave, travel to Stamford with a strong squad.

Having beaten Stamford 40-22 earlier in the season, Thomson is hoping to keep up the pressure on leaders Belgrave.

He said: “We beat them at our place although we didn’t play that well.

“We are virtually assured of a play-off place and we’re through to the final of the Lincolnshire Cup so it’s been a very good season but we need to keep up the pressure on Belgrave.

“We switched off last time, thinking we had got the game won, so I have let the players know they can’t let that happen again and they need to remain focused.”
