SPALDING RFC youngster Lawrence Rayner will link up with Championship side Bedford Blues this summer after enjoying a breakthrough season.
The fly-half caught the eye for the Blues’ Academy this campaign, culminating in a National Colts KO Cup final win over Redingensians last Monday.
Rayner made a cameo appearance after starting the 38-10 win at Franklin’s Gardens from the bench.
But he has clearly done enough to impress the club since being snapped up from Town’s first team earlier this season.
And Rayner is keen to highlight the role Spalding have played in his development as a player.
Rayner said: “We didn’t have the greatest of starts to the game, making some poor decisions but as the game progressed and play broke up, our game plan soon took its toll on the opposition.
“It was a great day and I have thoroughly enjoyed playing with the academy this season.
“I would like to thank my mum and dad mostly. They have seen every single match I’ve played and that helps a lot playing against such difficult opponents.
“I would also like to thank Spalding RFC’s Ben Hausermann, Niall Thomson and Harry Sharman in supporting me in my decisions and helping me with my progression as a player.”
