TULIPS: Star keeper heads list of leavers

FIVE key members of Spalding United's squad have left for pastures new.

Star keeper and triple award-winner Luke McShane heads the list of departures, having dropped down a level to join ambitious Eagle Bitter UCL Premier Division side St Neots Town.

McShane, who learnt his trade as a youth at Peterborough United, was named Players' Player and Supporters' Player of the Year after an excellent debut season with the Tulips.

He also picked up the Man of the Match Series gong, after a spree of heroic displays.

Following the stopper out of the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field are Adam Jones, Rob Hughes, Dan French and Martin Wormall.

The highly-rated quartet have jumped ship to UniBond rivals Grantham Town, who are assembling an impressive squad ahead of the new season.

Towering defender Jones will be a big loss, and was a joint winner of the Player of the Season award, following a vote between club officials.

Frontman Wormall bagged ten times for Spalding last year, while ex-Nottingham Forest midfielder Hughes was among the top performers at the back end of the campaign.

Winger French joined from Corby Town early on last season, scoring three times.

None of the transfers are linked to Alan Biley's resignation as manager.

There is some good news for Spalding however, with 15 players already committed to the club for the coming season.
