TULIPS: Piergianni off in Glapwell loss

SPALDING UTD 0 GLAPWELL 2 (Clarke 55, Oliver 85)

CARL Piergianni was sent off the Tulips were handed a 2-0 reverse by high-flying Glapwell on Tuesday night.

Jamie Clarke hit the post of the visitors in a drab first half at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field, before Conor Higginson saw red for two quick-fire yellow cards.

But Spalding's numerical advantage lasted less than 30 seconds, with Peterborough United loanee Piergianni dismissed for appearing to head-butt an opponent in the aftermath.

Glapwell always looked the more likely and it came as no surprise when Clarke headed home the opener from a corner on 55 minutes.

Billy Oliver almost levelled from Simon Mowbray's fierce cross, but namesake Dean Oliver settled matters five minutes from time with a brilliant individual effort.
