HOLBEACH United supremo John Chand has admitted that he is planning for life after star striker Andrew Tidswell.
The 23-goal hitman, who is currently on trial with Finnish side SJK, marked his debut for the professional club with a goal in a 3-0 friendly win on Sunday.
With Tidswell bidding to earn a contract with the second-tier outfit, Chand would be happier than anyone if he lands a deal – but concedes that a fresh face would have to be brought in to soften the blow of his departure.
The Tigers boss has already identified his chief target, but is keeping his cards close to his chest.
Ex-Spalding United hitman Simon Mowbray was thought to be a potential target, but the Lincolnshire Free Press understands that no deal will be done.
Chand said: “I spoke to ‘Tids’ on Twitter, he scored a goal, set one up and got 60 minutes.
“I think he’s finding it tough with double training sessions every day – so at least if he doesn’t get a deal we’ll have an even fitter player on our books!
“Obviously I hope he gets a deal and I’ll look to bring somebody else in if he does. There’s a player I’d perhaps ask to come and do a job for us, but that’s all I can say.”
Chand also fears that the cold snap may write off what promised to be an exciting February for the Tigers, after seeing Saturday’s game at Daventry United called off.
Holbeach’s next three scheduled fixtures are all big Lincolnshire derbies – but tonight’s Lincs FA Senior Cup semi-final at Bourne Town has already been postponed.
That’s followed by the ‘South Holland clasico’ with Spalding United at Carter’s Park on Saturday (3pm) and a big UCL League Cup quarter-final against Deeping Rangers next week.
But downbeat Chand has warned fans that the next three weeks could be obliterated by the snow and subsequent sub-zero temperatures.
“I think it’s going to be one of those dreaded spells when no football gets played at all,” added the Holbeach boss. “I’m not really expecting any football in the next two or three weeks – which is a shame as there are some tasty fixtures.
“It’s a bit of a pain that we’ll have to rearrange a host of games, but I think it may be a bonus if the Spalding game is mid-week anyway, it’d probably attract a bigger crowd.
“We’re going to take teams to play some Powerleague in Peterborough, though. Even if it looks bleak, it’s important that we keep fit and anticipate that the games will be on.”
