TIGERS: Griffiths aiming to fire up Holbeach
MITCH Griffiths is aiming to fire Holbeach United up the table after completing his move from Deeping Rangers.
The highly-rated winger, who turned down approaches from Spalding United and Boston Town to join the Tigers, will make his Carter's Park debut against Burton Park Wanderers on Saturday (3pm).
And despite Holbeach's slow start to the season - which has seen them lose all five competitive games - Griffiths insists that boss John Chand was the main reason behind his switch - and backed him to turn things around.
"I've worked with John before and he was a big factor in my decision," said the 19-year-old, who was part of Chand's Magnet Tavern side that reached the FA Sunday Cup final earlier this year.
"Last season at Deeping we started poorly, but went on to finish in the top four - so I'm not overly worried.
"I did have approaches from Spalding and Boston Town, but I know some of the Holbeach players and am happy to be here.
"I'm looking forward to my debut and the aim is to help the club climb the table."
Griffiths hit double figures in his maiden Deeping campaign and plundered a pre-season hat-trick against Spalding - making him hot property at UCL Premier Division level.
He goes on holiday for a week after Saturday's League Cup clash, but Holbeach supremo Chand is sure that he has made the signing of the summer.
"Mitch is a really great signing for us," said Chand.
"He works hard on the pitch, has a great attitude and is a bit of a joker in the dressing room. He also appreciates what I'm trying to build here and that's important.
"For him to chose Holbeach over the likes of Spalding and Boston Town is a major boost."
Chand, whose side find themselves rock bottom of the table, is targeting a maiden win of the season on home soil this weekend.
With a full-strength side to choose from for the first time this campaign, Division One side Wanderers hold no fears for the Tigers.
"We're playing catch up on everyone else after a hectic summer, so I'm not overly concerned with our start," added Chand.
"They will look at our league position and feel that we're there for the taking, but I'm hopeful that we'll get a win."
Experienced duo Matt Warfield and Omar Joof return to the squad, while summer capture Chris Johnson is available for selection for the first time since joining from St Neots Town.
Ex-Aston Villa, Leeds United and Coventry City frontman Julian Joachim could also feature, but Chand revealed that red tape is limiting his appearances for the club at present.
