It was Marylands Cup week in the Spalding and District Table Tennis League (sponsored by Vital Recruitment) – with two cracking second round ties taking centre stage.
Top match of the night saw JDM Allsorts facing Bladerunners, who are looking for a cup double.
Tomascz Dobrzyn proved to be just as difficult to handle with a handicap, winning both his games in straight ends.
With the second singles and the doubles already won the match was over, though JDM pulled one point back in the final game. They now meet Haz Beans on a Roll in the semi-final.
Division Two contenders Insidious met South Holland in what proved a much tighter match.
The lower tier outfit took the first game but were pegged back in the second which went to the third end.
However they then won the doubles before Gary Simpson clinched the tie with his second win of the night, which went almost all the way to the last point of the third end.
South Holland then closed out with a win, but lost out 3-2 overall.
Their opponents are the winners of the remaining tie between JAG and Dark Knights.
Unfortunately with two players injured for Knights the match was unfinished. Paddy Palgrave, however, played his two singles games – winning one and losing the other.
This week sees a return to the league programme, while members are reminded that the Roy Gibson Memorial Rose Bowl event takes place on February 20.
