TABLE TENNIS: JDM close in on the leaders

The top tier title race hotted up as Spalding and District Table Tennis League (sponsored by Vital Recruitment) returned to league action.

With leaders Bladerunners not in action, second-placed JDM Allsorts played bottom team JAG – and closed the gap at the top to four points.

James Gibson did manage a win for JAG, but JDM prevailed 4-1.

Third-placed South Holland, however, were unable to capitalise as much as they went down 3–2 to Defenders.

Martyn Green continued a rich vein of form, which has prompted an upgrade in his status, winning both his singles. Jean White added the third point while Richard Hammond scored for Holland, with their other point coming from the doubles.

Meanwhile, Dark Knights returned to the top of Division Two with a 5-0 win over Ha’st.

Insidious also leapfrog Castle, who had no match, with a 4–1 victory over Nomads who are yet to win.

However only two of the games finished in regulation, and they had a flurry of 11-9s, with two others going to the fifth end. Rod Bain scored for the losers.

The second round of the Marylands Cup was completed when JAG played the other singles against Dark Knights.

With both games completed pretty comfortably, at least as far as the scores were concerned, in JAG’s favour they had an unassailable lead and progress to meet Insidious.

Tomorrow (Wednesday) sees the Roy Gibson Rose Bowl competition. Members are reminded not to be late to register for the draw.
