SPALDING RFC: Town to take on the new leaders
Coalville RFC v Spalding RFC (Saturday, 2pm)
FOR the second week on the spin Town face their biggest game of the season.
After a thrilling win at then-leaders Market Rasen last week, Spalding make the trip to the new top dogs in Midlands Two East (North).
All three of the title contenders are locked together on 24 points, with an exciting run-in looming.
But with Coalville having a game in hand, Harry Sharman's charges face another must-win scenario if they are to maintain any hope of securing the championship they so crave.
Both Coalville and Rasen boast a vastly superior points difference than Town too, meaning they must win the league outright to guarantee glory.
A pumped-up Sharman said: "This game is huge. We've got ourselves into a great position now and full credit must go to the lads for doing so.
"We have to be ready to deal with their fast backs, but we're aiming to out-muscle them and dominate their pack.
"With both Coalville and Rasen racking up high scores most weeks, we're basically a point behind. So anything but a win isn't really good enough for us."
After a slow start to Sharman's first season as captain, Spalding have now won seven games on the spin.
The skipper always insisted that results - and indeed performances - would come, and he has been proved right.
Coalville dealt Sharman his first league loss in the job when they won at the Memorial Field back in September, but he insists ever-improving Town will set the record straight this weekend.
He added: "Teamwork has been the key to our change in fortunes and the spirit within the camp is excellent.
"I really fancy our chances if we just go there and play our game.
"Everyone needs to pull together and deliver the kind of display we managed against Market Rasen.
"We've been massive underdogs on our past two visits there, but still came away with wins."
Coalville will be a tough nut to crack, having piled twice as many points as Spalding.
But Town are much stronger defensively than their hosts and they have no new injury concerns.
Highly-regarded teenager Lawrence Rayner will travel with the squad after a string of stirring displays for the Development side.
The 17-year-old fly-half could be handed a surprise start, with Sharman waxing lyrical about his future at the club.
