SNOOKER: Resurgent duo finally taste winning feeling

Two of Spalding and District Snooker League’s struggling sides finally broke their respective ducks for the season last week.

Division One basement boys Tulips A and second tier Pyramid C both got their campaigns up and running, ending lengthy losing streaks in the process.

That leaves just Consti F, Services F and Consti D without wins after week seven.

Starting in the top flight, Tulips A grabbed their maiden success to the tune of 4-2 at home to Pyramid F. That was despite a fine 60 break from Jason Green (O56) and Alfonso Palumbo’s (O42) 25 clearance.

But Nick Savic (O35), Kieron Bowman (O14) and Martin Anderson (O7) delivered the goods for the Spalding side, with Savic making a 24 break.

At the top, Long Sutton B lead the way by four points after beating friendly foes Long Sutton D 5-1. A 32 break and a 22 clearance from Wayne Dent (O42) was the highlight.

Tulips B are sitting pretty in second after a 4-2 victory at Long Sutton A. The tight tussle saw Sutton’s Adam Barwell (O42) trouser a fine 57.

In Division Two, Boundary A opened up a five point lead by beating nearest rivals Boundary B 4-2. Both Shaun Ketteringham (R7) and Stewart Lilley (R7) managed 27 breaks in the all-Deeping affair.

Elsewhere, a handsome 45 break from Consti B’s Mick Johnson (O35) couldn’t prevent a 5-1 home loss against Gosberton B – who jump up to second.

Another making a super score was Pyramid D’s James Sharpe. The O42 handicapper managed 41 as his side edged out Services C 4-2 in Bourne.

Pyramid C are the happiest side in the second tier though, having jumped off the bottom. Their frame wins in a 4-2 success at Crowland D came from Martin Groom (R14), David Walker (R7) and, crucially, Malcolm Croft (R7).

It’s as you were at the top of Division Three, with Bourne SC A still leading Crowland B by three points. Marvellous Mark Gray (O91) was on inspired form for the table-toppers, reeling off breaks of 56 and 24 before finishing with a 33 clearance as Whittlesey C were swept aside 4-2 to make it six wins from six.

Crowland B matched that scoreline at Whittlesey B, with wins from Derek Tinkler (O14), Paul Spicer (R14) and Jim Howe (R7) getting the job done.

Down in Division Four, Ian Graham’s (O84) 55 break helped send Bourne SC B joint top. They beat Donington D 5-1.

Consti C were the big winners, crushing club mates Consti A 6-0 to go third. John Walker (R7) pocketed a cool 29 break in the process.

Also moving in the right direction are Long Sutton C. They are fourth, five points off the pace, after beating Consti D 4-2.

Gavin Shinkin (R14), Rachel Mayfield (R21) and Dan Mayfield (O14) got the wins.
