RANGERS: Off the mark with cup success

DEEPING RANGERS 3 (Hill 38, McCormack 42, Lomas 55) RAUNDS TOWN 1 (A Staffieri 44)

RANGERS secured the first win of the season with a comfortable League Cup success on Tuesday night.

In what was their sixth competitive outing of the campaign, Paul Hill's first goal for the club gave the hosts a 38th minute lead at Outgang Road.

Jamie McCormack made it two soon after, only for ex-Bourne Town striker Addie Staffieri reduced the arrears before the break.

Ryan Lomas wrapped up Deeping's victory ten minutes into the second half.

DEEPING RANGERS 2 (Musgrove pen 74, Oliver 89)

ST IVES TOWN 3 (Fox 11, Fielding 18, Cobb 45)

DAVID Cobb came back to haunt his old side as Deeping's dismal start to the season dragged on.

The flying winger, who has enjoyed a number of successful stints with Rangers, fired the decisive goal just before half-time at Outgang Road on Saturday.

Cobb's strike made it 3-0 to the visitors, rendering late goals from Scott Musgrove and Ryan Oliver as little more than consolation.

The result sees Rangers - tipped by many for the title - drop into the bottom three - and boss Pat Rayment is far from happy.

Rayment said: "We are not even looking like winning a game and the buck stops with me.

"I have brought the players in and I know they have ability, but they are not showing it on the pitch."

Shane Fox opened the scoring for the Saints with a slotted finish and Scott Fielding doubled the advantage soon after.

Deeping's Jason Turner somehow missed from three yards before Cobb made it three.

Musgrove (penalty) and Oliver reduced the arrears, but it was too little, too late.

Rangers: Crockett, McCormack, Birtles (Goodliffe), Hill, Brown, Griffiths, Tinkler (Hands), Musgrove, Oliver, Turner, Porter.

Tuesday - Rangers v Raunds Town (League Cup, 7.45pm); Saturday - Long Buckby v Rangers (3pm).
