NETBALL: Toffees triumphant after sticky start
TOFFEE APPLES 42 BASSETTS 34: TOFFEES produced a top performance to win their first Wisbech League Division One clash of 2012.
Taking to the court for the first time in two months, the team showed obvious nerves early on. The greasy surface did nothing to settle this and they went into the end of the first quarter two goals down.
Morris was defending well, but withdrew when an old injury flared up.
The Toffees were forced to reshuffle and get stuck in, as Carla Burdall seamlessly slotting back into the defensive trio with Siviwe Glass and Jo Shinkin.
The defence and centre court of Adele Rose and Lisa Broderick ensured the shooters had plenty to do, while Ellen Snowden and Becky Hales converted with unerring accuracy.
Toffees went on to dominate in the third quarter, as the teams’ superior fitness kicked in.
Bassetts fought back in the fourth and narrowed the gap, but smooth passing ensured that Toffees were able to pull away and widen the gap. •Player of the match: Becky Hales
