MARTIAL ARTS: Competition day provides exciting contests

SHOTOKAN Tokon Karate welcomed 50 students of all ages and grades to an exciting day of competition at the Peele Leisure Centre.

Aged between five and 50, beginners to black belts from clubs at Newark, Sutton-on-Trent, Lincoln University, Eye and the Deepings all came to compete.

Instructors from each club assisted in the judging and refereeing.

Everyone who entered took part in the spirit of karate and did their best on the day.

Results: White to Yellow Belt junior Kata – 1st Elisha Beehoo (Eye); 2nd Olivia Chapman (Newark); 3rd Robert Mills (Deepings). Green to Purple Belt junior Kata – 1st Billy Duncan (Newark); 2nd Alex Beehoo (Eye); 3rd Marcus Eaglen (Deepings). Brown and Black Belt junior Kata – 1st Hania Ratynskia (STK Spalding); 2nd Jonathan Spencer (Newark); 3rd Jodie Cherril-Burroughs (Newark). Adult kata (all grades) – 1st Adam Moulding (STK Long Sutton); 2nd Richard Barber (Lincoln); 3rd Richard Glet (STK Sleaford). Team Kata – 1st The Dementors; 2nd JKA Tigers. Sanbon kumite (White to Yellow Belt under 145cm) – 1st Elisha Beehoo (Eye); 2nd Elliott Garnett (Newark); 3rd (joint) Katie Broughton (STK Long Sutton) & Harry Barker (STK Spalding).
