JUNIOR FOOTBALL: Holbeach keep in touch with battling win

A ROUND-UP of the weekend's junior and amateur football results.

Holbeach Utd U/10s 3

Chatteris U/10s 1

HOLBEACH kept in touch with league leaders March after coming from behind to beat Chatteris.

After dropping two points behind March last week, the Tigers were in trouble early on when they fell behind to a shot deflected off the legs of Dan Mason.

But the home side went straight back on the attack, eventually forcing a penalty just before half-time, only for Mason to put it wide.

Eight minutes into the second half and the Tigers finally struck, with Liam Scales firing home a low, hard shot into the bottom-right.

Mason then made up for his penalty miss to put his side ahead and Jamal Nyang almost made it 3-1 soon after.

The game was put to bed by man of the match Mason, who struck again with a cross shot which squirmed under the keeper.

Hungate Rovers U/11s 10

Spalding Athletic U/11s 1

SPALDING were humbled by a strong Hungate side despite taking a surprise lead.

Athletic packed the defence from the off and struck on the counter attack through Freddie Pearson to go 1-0 up.

The shocked home favourites were caught on the back foot and for the ten minutes following the goal, Spalding dominated.

It wasn't to last though and soon Hungate took a firm grip on the game.

The score could have been much worse for the visitors, were it not for the excellent goalkeeping of Eliot Walton.

Holbeach Yellows U/14s 1

Cleethorpes U/14s 2

A LATE winner condemned Holbeach to defeat despite leading at half-time.

Holbeach took advantage of having the wind behind them in the first half, with Craig Weightman hitting the bar and Tom Coote having a goal ruled out.

Holbeach did take the lead on the stroke of half time, with Danny Wilshire running the entire length of the pitch to get on the end of a Tom Coote rebound.

But Cleethorpes struck back as their opponents tired, levelling after 63 minutes.

And though both sides had chances to clinch the tie, Cleethorpes struck late-on to seal the win.

Blackstones U/9s 1

Spalding Athletic U/9s 6

A WORKMANLIKE performance saw Spalding grind down their opponents before running out comfortable winners.

Athletics took the lead mid-way through the first half through a fine solo effort from Kieron McConnell.

The score stayed at 1-0 to the end of the first half, but Blackstones struck back from the restart.

Spalding reacted in the right way, with McConnell hitting a hat-trick and Charlie Ford, Christian Fortune and Alex Richardson also scoring.

Holbeach Utd U/12s 4

Boston Town U/12s 0

A HAT-TRICK from Jordan Keeble gave the Tigers the win in terrible conditions.

Both sides battled valiantly against the wind and the rain but it was Holbeach who made the best of it with Declan Earth and Keeble scoring in the first half.

Holbeach fought hard for possession in the second half and were rewarded when Keeble completed his treble.

Stamford Youth 1

Holbeach Utd A U/15s 0

A PULSATING match in Stamford was settled ten minutes from time in unfortunate fashion.

Both sides displayed some great passing football as they searched for the decisive goal, though neither side seriously troubled the goalkeepers.

The winner came in the 80th minute when a free kick was deflected into the Holbeach net.

Stamford manager Andy Coulson said Holbeach were "the best team we've played in the league" after the match.

Leverington U/11s 4

Holbeach Utd U/11s 5

A GOAL in the dying seconds from Harry Fords gave the Tigers a victory in a match they twice trailed.

Leverington had taken a two-goal lead soon after kick-off but a brace from Levi Butland got the Tigers back into the game to leave them 3-2 down at half-time.

Dominating the possession, Harry Hagen Smith and a cracker from winger Dom Ford left the scores level at 4-4, before Fords' close-range header sealed victory.

Outwell Swifts U/8s 0

Holbeach U/8s 11

THE young Tigers are still flying high with their 100 per cent record intact after a demolition of Outwell Swifts.

A great all-round performance saw the defence break down Outwell attacks and the forwards running riot in their opponent's penalty area.

Five goals from Ewan McCracken, four from Reif Clarke and a William Barnes strike secured a simple victory for Holbeach.

Peterborough & District League

Pinchbeck United 3

Ramsey Town 4

NAIVE defending and poor finishing cost Pinchbeck despite a stirring late comeback against reigning champions Ramsey.

The home side found themselves 2-0 down through some poor errors at the back but still managed to create plenty of chances.

Debutant Ross Nichols reduced the arrears after the break, only to see his side leak two more goals.

United didn't let their heads drop hitting two further goals, one from Ben Harris and another by debutant Mark Lovelace.

Pinchbeck piled on the pressure but were unable to hit and equaliser despite a last-gasp goalmouth scramble.

Pinchbeck Res 2 Holbeach Res 3

PINCHBECK's winning streak came to a halt after an ill-tempered match against championship rivals Holbeach.

Straight from the kick-off Holbeach scored after a quick attack down the left, though Pinchbeck equalised soon after with a free-kick from Ben Allen.

Several Holbeach players were then booked for dissent before Pinchbeck's Luke Harrison and Holbeach's Davy Sheppard were sent off for an altercation following a Sheppard tackle.

Allen struck again in the second half, but sloppy defending saw Holbeach take the points with two late goals.

Spalding Sunday League

Station Gates FC 4 Spalding 1

STATION Gates ran out comfortable winners in a game dictated by heavy rain.

Jamies Jukes opened the scoring after running onto a Dan Smith through ball.

Station Gates added another before Spalding equalised on the stroke of half-time.

A brace from Nick Cott sealed the tie for the home side in the second half.
