javed's unbeaten 231 tops innings of records

NEVER mind the batsmen or the 12th man with the drinks, Market Deeping's scorer was the busiest man on Saturday - reaching for the record books three times.

Moving up from sixth to third in the V Sports Lincs ECB premier league was almost overlooked as Deeping smashed three league records in a pounding of Grantham.

The team total of 435 for two added 104 to the previous record set by Market Rasen.

Nadeem Javed was responsible for 231 of those runs as his unbeaten knock shattered the individual batting record of 186.

And Javed with Dave Gillett - who made a "mere" unbeaten 92 - smashed the third wicket partnership best with 277.

Deeping, who had had enough and declared after 49 overs, skittled out Grantham for just 107 to complete a formidable win.

Elsewhere Long Sutton's bowlers performed well to send Messingham packing for 177 - Mark Wright the pick of the bunch with five for 37.

After a struggle to 55 for five a stand of 46 in 11 overs by Ian Smith (37) and Garth Ratsey looked to be taking Sutton to victory.

They both fell to spinner Simon Raby and although James Giles took Sutton close to their target they were all out for 155. It was still seven valuable points though.

Bourne struggled for runs - making only 169 for six - but David Christmas topped the day's bowling with five for 26 to help bowl Owmby out for 124.

Richard Howitt had cracked 67 not out for Bourne who remain a clear second in the table.

On Saturday (12.30pm) one-from-bottom Long Sutton travel to basement side Grantham while Bourne entertain Grimsby.

Market Deeping's record breakers head to Lindum with little between them and the next four sides in the table.
