INDOOR BOWLS: Spalding storm into another national final

Spalding Indoor Bowls Club have reached the final of the national club under-25 double rink competition for the second year on the trot.

The talented Spalding side beat Northamptonshire outfit Desborough by nine shots to book their place.

Martin Spencer’s rink of Ryan Huskisson, Martin Duncan and Matt Whyers won comfortably by 26 shots to 10 to put one foot in the final.

Calvin Leuty’s rink of Charlene Leuty, Jordan Philpott and Ashley Caress did lose by 17shots to 24 – but that was more than enough to wrap up a winning team margin of 43-34.

Both rinks played home and away at the same time – and after ten ends Spalding were actually five shots down overall. The scores were also level after 18 ends, but Spencer’s rink picked up five shots on the 19th, while Leuty’s set chipped away to help seal the overall success.

With five players from the team having helped guide the Lincolnshire under-25 double rink team to the national county version of the national finals, they are on for a unique double.
