INDOOR BOWLS: Bowlers ease past seasiders

SPALDING Indoor Bowls Club's Friendly Bowlers secured a handsome win over their counterparts from Skegness last week.

Playing on six rinks, Spalding were in control from the start, albeit not by a great margin.

But this advantage was maintained through to the final bell, with Spalding the victors by a healthy margin of 99-77 shots.

The home team won on four rinks, the highest scoring (down to ends won) was skipped by Roger Perkins, aided by Mike Laidler, Jan Sinclair and Qwen Bothomley.

Captain for the day was James Newby.

SPALDING'S ladies were soundly beaten in their latest Trudy Bates Competition match at Boston.

After picking up decent results in their prior two matches, it didn't go quite so well in the third game in this series.

Spalding were up against a Boston team that were red-hot on the day and they deserved the excellent full-house win of 16-0 points.

The return match on Spalding's home turf is in a couple of weeks, so they will have the opportunity to return the favour.

HOSTS Louth proved too strong for Spalding in Lincs Mixed League Division One.

This was going to be a hard match - and with a host of regulars unavailable - it was Louth who were the deserved winners by 119-78 shots (14-4 points).

Spalding had two winning rinks. The highest scoring one was skipped by Mick Dolton with Patt Crampton, Janet Staples and Bob Davis.

The other successful rink was led by Joan Balding, who was also the team captain for the day.
