Fisherman's see off Lion to take over at the helm

A TOP of the table clash in Division A saw second-placed Fisherman’s B displace rivals Golden Lion after a 6-3 win.

Fisherman’s went two points clear of Lion after a run of four consecutive wins in games two to five put them in the driving seat after losing the first round.

It was a good round for Fisherman’s, as their A team went level on points with Royal Mail Cart A with an emphatic 7-2 win.

With the tie finely poised at 4-2 going into the doubles, the visitors reeled off three wins in a row to win the tie.

In the other tie on Thursday, Shooters dropped two points behind Crown in Crowland after a 5-4 loss.

The visitors completed a remarkable turnaround after trailing 4-2 going into the doubles.

In Division B, despite going into the match level on points Lake Ross showed their class with a comfortable 7-2 win over Jolly Farmer.

In Division C the Bell at Gosberton stretched their lead at the top to six points with a close 5-4 win over second-placed Plough B.

Hart Marler Sunday League

TITLE-chasers Crown in Crowland lost ground on leaders Fisherman’s A but still snatched a 4-4 draw from the jaws of defeat at home to Robin Hood A.

The visitors had looked odds-on for vistory after they took the first four singles matches.

Despite the comeback Crown are now in third after Anchor were given a 5-0 win when Robin Hood B failed to turn up.

Holbeach & District League

RUNAWAY Division One league winners Woadman’s Arms kept up their 100 per cent record with a 6-3 win at Bull B.

Woadman’s had already won the tie going into the doubles.

The result keeps the side ten points clear of second placed Hat & Feathers, who also won 6-3 over Greyhound A.

Greyhound had pulled themselves back into the tie from 4-1 down to 4-3, but the Feathers teams of S Cooper and P Newton and A Cooper and A Godfrey won the final two doubles.

In other games Anchor A and Red Lion A remain rooted to the bottom both on four points after they lost 6-3 and 7-2 respectively.

Red Lion were thrashed by Bull A at home while Anchor lost to Bull’s Neck A, also at home despite leading 2-1 at one point.

In Division Two Lamb & Flag remain at the top after coming through a tough encounter with Crown & Woolpack 5-4.

They are joined at the top on 20 points by Elizabethan B, who hammered Saracen’s Head 7-2.
