EBF BOWLS: Ayscoughfee reel off ninth straight victory

Spalding and District EBF Bowls League

AWESOME Ayscoughfee A marched to the top of the Division Two standings with after toppling Holbeach USC A in a top of the table tussle.

The 5-1 home success made it nine wins on the bounce for Eamonn Cherry's side, and they are now a point clear at the summit.

All three of Ayscoughfee's rink wins were impressive, but the best effort came from D Ground, A Caress and P Caress, who coasted to a 27-10 triumph.

BSC now move into the title picture in third, following a hard-fought success over Sutton Bridge B.

They won on three rinks to claim a 5-1 victory, although Sutton never made it easy.

Top rink came from M Wilkinson, A Wright and M Deacon (25-13), as BSC moved within three points of top spot.

Fourth-placed Sutton Bridge A enjoyed the biggest win of the week in the second tier.

A strong all-round display saw all rinks victorious, with B Wright, K Burton and T Burton top scorers (24-13).

Meanwhile in the top flight, Carter's Park A extended their lead at the summit by half a point.

They produced a superb display to dispatch Moulton Harrox A 5.5-0.5, although Harrox performed admirably.

The highlight of the clash saw P Salter, N Dunham and I Bollons draw 21-21 with H Greaves, S Quinton and Bob Duke.

Spalding Town A are still the main challengers to Carter's Park, and they saw off Consti A 5-1 last week.

Town racked up 91 shots in the victory, which saw D Hammond, A Almond and D Dunham (21-8) steal the show.

The win leaves them three points off the pace.

Elsewhere, perhaps the most notable performance of the week saw Whaplode Drove A crush Billingborough A 6-0.

In what was only Whaplode's third win of the season, A Jealous, K Holmes and D Stanton Jnr's 24-13 rink success was the best on show.

The closest match in the division saw Bourne Town A squeeze past Donington 4-2.

Both sides won two rinks each, but even a massive 35-7 win from Donington's M Laidler, T Stanley and D Timm wasn't enough to sway the shot-count in their favour.Meanwhile, the top four sides in Division Three all recorded resounding victories.

Whaplode Drove were the biggest winners, as they notched 101 shots in a 6-0 romp at Billingborough B.

All four rinks contributed well to the overall shot count, but M Waterson, M Crump and D Burgess (28-10) just edged out the rest.

Leaders Moulton Harrox B maintained their six point lead by taking the honours in an all-club affair with the C team.

The trio of H Kirby, R Wade and R Walpole secured a handsome 25-10 rink win in the process.

At the foot, Carter's Park C inflicted another defeat on spirited strugglers Royal Mail Cart B.

The basement side managed 78 shots, but their Holbeach-based opponents amassed seven more, and took the spoils 5-1.

In Division Four, leaders Consti B shrugged off last weeks defeat to get back on the winning trail.

Holbeach USC C were their victims, although the 4.5-1.5 result was a close-run thing.

Second-placed Castle B gained another half a point back on them however, following their comprehensive five-point return from Spalding Town D.

E Hannah, A Sculthorpe and D Newby's 27-6 rink win was the highlight.
