Spalding Cycling Club duo Matt Ellis and Sam Bentley rounded off their very successful cyclo cross seasons by competing at the National Cyclo Cross Championships in Bradford’s Peel Park.

The course was difficult, comprising strength sapping long drags and steep run-ups – which force the riders to dismount. Lighter cyclists are at a disadvantage on that type of course, but Ellis still finished 28th out of 41 starters in a tough under-14 race. On day two, Bentley lined up with 50 other riders for the junior race. He had a great start before a collision with a post and numerous mechanical problems finished his race early.

Both riders will be back in action later this year, fighting for top places in the same age category next season.
