CROSS COUNTRY: Taylor turns on the heat to take Anglian title

Storming win: Charlotte Taylor

Storming win: Charlotte Taylor

SPALDING High School ace Charlotte Taylor added the Anglian Championships crown to her Lincolnshire title at the annual five counties cross country meet on Saturday.

In bitterly cold conditions at the Ipswich event, Taylor dominated the senior girls’ category from the gun – on a hard, frozen surface.

She built up a commanding lead and destroyed her opposition, finishing the 4,040m championship course comfortably clear of the chasing pack.

Grace Mullins (University Academy Holbeach) also ran well to claim fourth place – assisting Lincolnshire to an overall victory as they retained the Anglian Championship Team Trophy.

In the senior boys’ race – run over a demanding 6,900m course – Lloyd Kempson (Gleed sixth form) was the sixth man home for Lincolnshire in 27th place as they finished second overall, eight points behind winners Suffolk.
