CRICKET: Bristow's unbeaten 42 seals Town's derby bragging rights
SOUTH LINCS & BORDER LEAGUE
Division Three
Spalding 2nd (164-8) beat Moulton Harrox Sunday (138) by 26 runs.
AN UNBEATEN 42 from Tom Bristow sealed victory for Town in a closely contested derby game – and propelled his side up to third place in the table.
Spalding skipper Dav Naghen won the toss and elected to bat first, with Mick East (21) and Lee Eyett (14) taking the attack to the Harrox bowlers.
But after they were dismissed, wickets fell at regular intervals with Jim Clarke (5), Lyon (8), Cannon (1), Dave Endersbee(2), and Jack Barratt (16) falling in fairly quick succession to leave Town on the brink at 85-7 in the 28th over.
The innings was saved when dynamic duo Bristow and Kev Nottingham (17no) shared an unbeaten partnership of 46 for the ninth wicket.
Excellent bowling from Naghen and Cannon soon reduced Moulton to 37-3 in reply.
More wickets tumbled when dangerman Harry Barnett fell to Nottingham and Morris was brilliantly caught by Lyon.
The pendulum swung back Moulton's way however, with a partnership of 40 between Maltby (32) and Tim Barrett (28) taking the score to 117.
However, a wily spell from East removed Broadbent, Waltham and Beavis all without scoring, and Moulton fell 26 runs short.
Skipper Naghen said: "That was a fine victory and a very good performance.
"The lads showed a great deal of character when we were under pressure while batting."

Division One
Boston (142-9) lost to Long Sutton (143-6) by four wickets.
LONG Sutton pulled off a surprise victory against title-contenders Boston on a scorching day at Paradise Field.
Hosts Sutton won the toss and decided to bowl, and it proved a good call.
They bowled extremely well, especially Barry Stanway, who produced express pace and aggression to pick up 6-33 from his 12 overs.
The only two people to score anything of note for Boston in their 142-9 were Nic Adams (31) and Tom Baxter who made a well played 54.
In reply Sutton lost a few early wickets, but Chris Booth rescued the innings with a patient 46.
Tim Norris then smashed 20 from 16 balls, including a huge reverse-sweep for six.
Paul Timby picked up three quick wickets for Boston and it looked like it was going to be a close finish before Paul Deans came in and made a colossal 22 not out from 18 balls to give Sutton victory with 12 balls to spare.
Sutton skipper Phil Oldfield said: "The boys did us proud today, it was a fantastic effort.
"These points could prove crucial in our efforts to survive in this division."

Division Two
Oakham 2nd (157) lost to Spalding (158-5) by five wickets.
TOWN are top at the half way stage of the season after this comprehensive win.
With conditions very humid and the pitch having a slight layer of grass on top, skipper Matt Hendry had no hesitation in inserting Oakham into bat. After a good but wicketless start from the opening bowlers, Simon Juckes (4-40) and Ansar Hussain (2-34) changed the game in Spalding's favour.
Hendry brought himself on and wrapped up the innings with 3-11, ensuring maximum bowling points.
Simon Juckes (10) was bowled by a good ball fairly early on, bringing Ben Smith (24) to join a man in fine form, Ansar Hussain (67) at the crease.
Together they put the Oakham bowlers to the sword and eased Spalding to the total they needed.
Valuable contributions from John East (11), Hendry (17), Will Jex (10 no) and Jamie Juckes (8no) secured the full 20 points.
Hendry said: "We had to be patient today and wait for our chances, but when they came we took them very well.
"It was a very important game for us after the loss last week and It is very pleasing to be top at the half way stage."

Pinchbeck beat Welney by 6 wickets.
JAMES Brown's unbeaten half century and five wickets for Richard Riley set up this victory at Welney.
Pinchbeck were asked to field, but they stuck to the job well and were more than satisfied to bowl out the hosts for 124.
Jamie Parrish grabbed an early wicket and Chris Casswell claimed two victims on his return to the side.
Steve Robinson also got the big wicket of Goodger (42) to wrap the innings up.
Pinchbeck once again threatened to throw it away with the bat as the top three were dismissed with just 19 on the board.
But Brown (63no) batted sensibly and a stand of 49 with Jaz Tott (20) got the chase back on track, before a rapid unbroken partenrship of 63 with Dave Wallder (19 no) got them to the target easily.
