BILLIARDS: Dons are dominant

DOMINANT Donington continued their stunning Spalding and District League streak with yet another whitewash last week.

The second-placed side dispatched Gosberton B with minimal fuss, making it four 7-0 victories on the bounce.

It's now 11 wins from 12 games for the title hopefuls, who are going blow for blow with defending champions and current leaders Pyramid C at the summit.

All three of Donington's cue aces chipped in with handy breaks, Jim Thompson (R40) leading the way with scores of 35, 20 and an unfinished 21.

Sidney Shaw (O10) added 26, while Norman Gookey (R100) notched a cool 23.

Two other sides snared maximum points too, with Holbeach and Whittlesey both on-song.

Holbeach had too much for Consti C, who were soundly beaten on their own baize.

Dennis Hix (R80), Jim Stephenson (R70) and Tony Blanchard (R60) chipped in with breaks of 22, 23 and 22 unfinished for the visitors, while Consti's John Walker (R100) made 21.

Bourne side Pyramid B were Whittlesey's victims, as Terry Everitt (R20) starred once again.

The Whittlesey ace pocketed a handsome 45 break en route to seeing off Darrell Read (R50), while Martin O'Connor's (R40) 26 was scant consolation for the visitors.

Elsewhere, Hugh Pinner (O150) hit the best break of the week as lowly BSC A took the honours in their all-club affair with BSC B.

The veteran potter hit a cracking 50 against John Bellerby (R100), but found the handicap too much to haul back.

Team mates Brian Bowell (R20) and Allan Yardley (scr) were on hand to save the day though, with the latter reeling off a 25 clearance in the decisive frame.

There was also a fine 5-2 win for Crowland A at Consti A.

Andy Wheatley (R30) managed scores of 23 and 20 for the victors, but he was undone by Bob Adams (R30) - who made a 23 break of his own.

Back towards the top, third-placed Consti B bagged a 4-3 success at Gosberton A.

Mick Johnson's (O150) solid trio of breaks (33, 31, 30) helped see his side home, although Lee Watson (R60) hit offerings of 21 and 20 for the unlucky hosts.
