BILLIARDS: Timely win for title-chasing Consti

Consti C closed the gap on Spalding and District Billiards League leaders Holbeach B with a dominant display against struggling Gosberton.

The second-placed side cashed in on Holbeach’s week off with a thumping 7-0 win over the basement boys, which moves them within five points of the summit. Pat Bowman (R110), John Batterham (R120) and John Walker (R100) all won well for title-chasing Consti.

Elsewhere, two of the league’s titans squared off as Crowland B edged out Holbeach A 4-3. Hugh Pinner (O170) made a 46 break as he knocked off Rob Childs (O190) 200-172, despite the latter pocketing a fine 51.

Breaks of 35 and 31 (unfinished) from Sean Swinburn (R10) helped Long Sutton win 5-2 at Consti A, while a 39 from Derek Tinkler (O20) was in vain as Crowland A lost 5-2 against Pyramid B.
