Martin ‘Wolfie’ Adams insists he will have other chances to win a fourth BDO World Championship title.
The 58-year-old from Deeping St James was pipped 7-6 in the final at Lakeside last weekend by first-time finalist Scott Mitchell from Dorset.
That agonising defeat led some experts to wonder whether or not Adams could ever repeat the high level of performance he showed in reaching his fourth final in his 22nd successive appearance at the event.
But Adams has no such concerns. He predicts he will add to the third title he won in 2011.
“Who in all honesty is going to fancy taking me on, one-against-one, on the Lakeside stage?” Adams stated.
“I’m still the man to beat and I intend to prove that next year when I’ll have another go at winning the title.
“I can definitely win it again as there is nothing that can happen in the World Championships that can suprise me and few other players can say that.
“I’ve seen it all. I’ve played well, I’ve played poorly, I’ve won finals and lost finals. That experience is invaluable at a World Championships.
“Scotty played well in the final and fair play to him. He’s a great player, but he will return next year as defending champion and that brings a whole lot of pressure with it.
“I had my chances in the final, but I just came up short.”
