Spalding Saracens’ volleyball aces recovered from a slow start to the season to see off American visitors Harlaxton 3-2.
Clashes between the duo are always a close-run thing – and this was no different. Steve Jackson’s second service round helped Spalding go eight points clear in the opening set and they eventually ran out 25-20 winners.
The second set belonged to Saracens too, as they clinched a 25-15 triumph to go 2-0 up.
Coach Tim Barzycki brought in Josie Periam and Isaac Cooke for the third set, but Harlaxton hit back to shade it 25-22.
That gave the American side a big boost and they soon levelled the contest with a 25-21 victory in the fourth to set-up a thrilling finale.
Harlaxton led the final set 10-6, but with Scott Chuter serving, Saracens were able to turn the game around and clinch a 15-13 victory.
The two teams meet again in the cup later this month.
