Spalding Volleyball Club grabbed the local bragging rights as they edged out youthful rivals Spalding Saracens 3-2 in a cracking derby duel.
The sports hall at Spalding Grammar School played host to the Lincolnshire Cup tie, which showcased the area’s top talent.
Saracens took the first set 25-20, inspired by some super serving from James Urry.
Former Saracen Sam Browne then served well to fire Spalding into a 17-3 lead in the second, before the on-loan Dan Barrass pulled five back. The Saracens had left themselves too much to do though and Spalding took the set 25-16.
Set three saw Saracens more determined and they very quickly gained a 7-3 lead. With Urry serving well again, the youngsters took the set 25-12 to put themselves on the brink of a shock victory.
However, Spalding took set four 25-15 after strong serving from Chris Harris, before winning the clincher 15-6.
Coach Tim Barzycki said: “It was a great game with excellent performances from the youngsters that took part.”
