Long Sutton had to settle for second place in round two of the Lincolnshire Under 14 Hockey League at Louth as Lincoln A took the honours.

Lincoln won all five of their matches, never looking back from their first game where they defeated a heavily depleted Spalding 3-0.

Long Sutton began with a 1-0 victory over Alford. Without Ed Lanning at the back, Sutton found the going tough against an impressive Alford side.

Brad Whitmore was called upon too many times for comfort, especially as it was still 0-0 going into the last few minutes.

Sutton finally made the breakthrough when Matt Goodley, who had earlier forced a fine save from the keeper, found Josh Baker who slotted home.

Spalding B began with a 2-0 defeat by Bourne Deeping who then drew 0-0 with Spalding’s A team.

Baker was again in fine goalscoring form when Long Sutton beat Spalding B 2-0.

The first came from a short corner routine involving Lucas Thompson, Goodley and Will Taylor who combined to open up space for Baker to slam home.

The second came from a goalmouth scramble in which the Spalding keeper kept out shot after shot before finally being beaten by Baker’s third goal of the day.

Lincoln, who had edged out Alford 2-1 in their second match, beat Bourne Deeping 3-0 next time out while Long Sutton maintained their 100 per cent record with a 2-0 victory over Spalding A.

Again Baker netted twice as Sutton recorded their third victory.

Thompson had a mazy run down the left before forcing a save and Taylor was unlucky not to score when firing just wide, but Baker showed the way with a fine double.

Spalding B drew with Alford 0-0 before the clash of the big guns, where Lincoln beat Long Sutton 2-0.

The first came from a short corner after a very good save from Whitmore. He got a glove to the ball but it found its way into the net.

The second came from a break which left a player free to push into the empty goal.

Spalding A beat Spalding B 1-0 and Alford then drew 1-1 with Bourne Deeping.

Lincoln beat Spalding B 4-0 to secure victory while Long Sutton bounced back when seeing off Bourne Deeping by the same margin.

Goodley opened the scoring, and Taylor added two more before Baker wrapped things up with a fine shot.

Meanwhile, Long Sutton B were third in Division Two, where Sleaford took the honours.

Sutton began with a 2-1 defeat by Louth, where Patrick Walsh scored their goal.

Bourne Deeping B lost their opener 1-0 against Horncastle before eventual winners Sleaford saw off Lincoln B by the same scoreline.

Long Sutton B were then held 0-0 by Horncastle in a game where either side could have scored.

Sleaford then defeated Louth 1-0 while Bourne Deeping went down 2-1 to Lincoln B.

Long Sutton played well against Sleaford but lost 1-0 while other one-goal games saw Louth beat Bourne Deeping, Lincoln defeat Horncastle and Long Sutton edged out Bourne Deeping where Emmy Gittins scoring

Louth beat Lincoln B 3-0 and Horncastle and Sleaford drew 0-0 before Long Sutton beat Lincoln B 2-0.

Jacob Synnott ran through the middle and found space at the top of the D to fire home and then grabbed a second from a Gittins cross.
