TRIATHLON: Blisters deny Ryan Turkish delight at Euros

Super-fit Spalding Triathlon Club ace Ryan Hart recently competed in the 2013 European Triathlon Championships in Alanya, Turkey.

He managed an awesome eighth in his age group and 66th overall out of the 256 male entrants – who all did a 1,500m sea swim, 40km cycle and 10km run to finish.

Hart’s overall time was 2.06.51hrs – and it would have been even better but for a troublesome final leg that saw his feet blister on the run.

Hart said: “Though disappointed with the run, overall I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and will definitely be looking to compete next year with an even stronger performance.”

The swim went well, with Hart setting a personal best on a course that he considered pretty slow. That was largely due to choppy sea and a slightly longer distance than usual.

He quickly passed through T1 (transition) and onto the four-lap closed 24-mile road bike course, which he managed to complete in a little over 58 minutes.

Coming out of T2 Hart was 27th overall and second in his age group, but the air temperature was quickly rising.

In a bid to cool himself down, the Spalding ace was forced to utilise every aid station he could find and covered himself in water.

Sadly, the water Hart doused over his head quickly worked its way into his shoes and blisters soon developed, making the 10km run painful and slow.

He dropped a few places down the field, but eighth marked a super effort.
