Spalding teenager Tilly Garfoot shot six under her handicap to lead 10 qualifiers into the England Golf Grand Medal Final to find the country’s champion woman medal player.
Tilly started her round in the Midlands North Region final at Penn Golf Club, Staffordshire, with a nine on the first hole. But she went on to return a net 65, playing off 23 handicap.
Other qualifiers included Leicestershire’s Helen Lowe - an England senior international and 2015 English senior women’s champion.
The ten players who won places in the Grand Medal Final are Garfoot, Lowe, Jean Brayshay (Worfield, Shropshire), Denise Aston (South Staffs), Sara Allen (Branston, Staffordshire), Joanne Morris (Willesley Park, Leicestershire), Christine Lamont (Outlane, Yorkshire), Holly Langford (Perton Park, Staffordshire), Emma Leech (Penn, Staffordshire) and Nancy Davis (Mickleover, Derbyshire).
All the regional finalists had returned the best four scores at their club in the England Golf Medals during 2015.
The successful 10 players will meet qualifiers from five other regional finals at the Grand Medal Final at Frilford Heath in Oxfordshire on Thursday, August 13.
The Grand Final will be a feature of Golf Week, staged by England Golf to create a national grand finale for a host of handicap and team championships.
