Luke Elliott came home with a brilliant bronze medal after shining at the city of Derby long course level one licensed open meet.

He was one of a number of South Lincs Competitive Swimming Club aces to be competing at the event, which was held at the Ponds Forge international pool in Sheffield.

Elliott’s bronze came in the 100m back stroke event and was the sole medal for the Spalding-based club at the meet.

That’s not to be sniffed at, though, with the qualifying times extremely fast for the meeting.

Just to be accepted to compete was an achievement in itself for the Spalding team.

Coach Callum Lawson said: “There were strong swims from all, good swims shown and lessons are being learnt.”
