IT’S been a busy start to 2011 for South Lincs Competitive Swimming Club.
Members of the Spalding-based club have been competing at many different venues in a bid to improve their times and gain more experience swimming at higher level open meets and in 50m swimming pools.
To start the year, 19 South Lincs swimmers won 25 medals at the Boston Open Meet, held at Grantham.
It was also the last chance for swimmers to qualify for county times.
Young swimmers Emily McCann and Lucy Baker (both U/9) swam fantastically at their first ever open meet. McCann grabbed three wins, a second and a third, while Baker managed a second place.
• Other Boston Open results: 10yrs - Matthew Gray - 1st , 4 x 2nd. 11yrs - Eleanor Templer 2nd, 3 x 3rd; Alan Sumpton 3 x 3rd. 13yrs - Natasha Berg 1st; Emily Blackbourne 3rd. 14yrs - Jordan Templer 3rd. 16yrs - Michael Drakard 2nd, 3rd; Spencer Turner 2nd.
• On the same weekend ten-year-old Ryan Horrocks, starred at the the City of Derby Open Meet at Ponds Forge in Sheffield.
He got a Midland Qualifying Time in the 200m freestyle, gained nine long course PBs and broke four long course county records.
• Jamie Reeves (10) won a silver at the Rotherham Metro A and B Grade Meet in the 50m breast. Philippa West also took bronze in 50m free.
• Chloe Hannam (14) competed against swimmers from the East Midlands, West Midlands and East Region at a new competition held at the Central Zonal Championships, at Corby International Pool.
Aiming to gain national qualifying times, Hannam swam in four events over two days. She took bronze in the 200m free, but missed out on the NQT by two seconds.
In the 200m IM Hannam grabbed silver, but missed her time by one second. That was followed by another silver in the 800m IM, but was again just two seconds off the NQT.
