The 21st running of the Unlimited Banger British Team Championships takes place at the Norfolk Arena this Sunday – and plenty of South Holland racers are involved.
Known more commonly as the ‘Icebreaker’, this event has grown in stature year upon year and currently sees around 120 unlimited bangers booked in for action, with support coming from the junior bangers.
Among the big name teams travelling to the Norfolk Arena are the Brighton Bears, who will be making their first appearance at the King’s Lynn-based event for several years.
Other notable visitors include the Ant Hill Mob, Wild Boyz and Black Rats.
South Holland interest will mainly centre upon the ‘Bad News’ team, who will be hoping their large army of Spalding-based fans will have plenty of good news to cheer following the meet.
All booked in for action in the team are Will Longford (Holbeach), Simon Goodale (Moulton Marsh) and Paul Lambe (Gedney Hill).
The team is equally capable of wrecking or winning , but whatever takes their fancy on this occasion is guaranteed leave a big smile on their fans’ faces for one reason or another.
Meanwhile, Jamie Clayton (Spalding) swaps his saloon for an unlimited banger in what is now a regular outing for the 2L stock cars star during the close season.
Clayton delivered a fantastic performance when he made a one-off appearance at the Unlimited Axe-Tinction meeting last May – and many will be keen to see if the saloon stock car pilot can come up with the goods once again.
Racing gets under way at 12 (noon) at the Norfolk Arena on Sunday.
