GOSBERTON Risegate speedway ace Simon Lambert has signed to join the Leicester Lions in the Premier League for the 2012 season.
The 22-year-old former Sheffield rider joins the Lions for their second season and will be their only British rider in the squad of seven.
Lambert played a key role in Sheffield’s second place finish in the Premier League. He rode at reserve and added over two points to his average.
The high-octane rider doubled up with Stoke in the National League too, where he won the Pairs Championship and was named the team’s Rider of the Year.
Lambert said: “I am delighted to be riding at the Beaumont Park Stadium next year. Leicester is a new progressive club that’s going forward.
“They have a really good team on paper and I am hoping to improve on my average, moving from reserve into the main team.
“I put 2.19 on my average at Sheffield this year and if I can maintain my average and position, plus add a bit more then that would be superb.”
Lambert is also hoping to attract some extra sponsorship, being the only Brit in the Leicester team.
He added: “Riding at Leicester will also be good for my sponsors to come along to the meetings on Saturday nights. It is not too far to travel.”
Leicester team manager Jason Attwood was impressed with Lambert’s performances during this season and he is delighted to have signed him.
He said: “Simon contacted me at the weekend as he was keen to come to Leicester. I was impressed with his enthusiasm and eagerness to ride.
“I am delighted to have an up and coming English rider in the team and feel sure that the fans will get behind him.”
