It was a week of firsts in the Spalding and District Snooker League as Tulips A, Consti F and Services C were all handed their maiden defeats of the season.

Starting in the top flight, leaders Tulips A were finally beaten at the eighth time of asking as high-flying Pyramid B edged them out 4-2.

Talisman Bren Bowman (O63) did star with breaks of 54 and 31 for the Spalding side, but wins from Spencer Dawkins (O49), Dave Pearson (O14) and Alfonso Palumbo (O42) secured the spoils for the talented Bourne boys.

That moved Pyramid up into third, after Donington A slipped to a 4-2 home reverse against Long Sutton B.

Wayne Howard (O21) and Wayne Dent (O42) made breaks of 24 and 22 respectively to see Sutton home.

Towards the foot, Holbeach A snapped their four-game losing streak by beating friendly foes Holbeach C 4-2.

Breaks of 24 from Mick Ayres (O14) and Bobby White (O14) helped inspire key frame wins as the A side prevailed.

In Division Two, vital black-ball wins from Mark Gray (O98) and Oliver Player (O35) helped Bourne SC A take the scalp of unbeaten leaders Consti F 5-1.

Gray added breaks of 34 and 23 as he defied a massive handicap difference to pip Bryan Turnell (R14) 123-120.

Also losing their 100 per cent record were Services C, who slipped up 5-1 at Boundary A. Peter King (scr), Andy Mowforth (O14), Barry Malthouse (scr) and Jim McGhee (scr) delivered the vital frame wins for the Deepings side.

Elsewhere, Consti H’s Seb Grimston (O21) lit up the league with a super 52 break in a 4-2 team triumph at Whittlesey C. A fine 27 clearance from Ken Jeremy (R14) served as light consolation for the hosts.

There was also a fine 50 break from Services B cue ace Tim Nash (O21) as his side defeated Pyramid D 5-1.

In Division Three, in-form Gosberton A earned a fine 5-1 victory at Long Sutton C.

James Waterfall (O7) led the way with a cool 29 break, while the on-song Lee Watson (O7) finished the match off with a timely 24 break in the final frame.

Gosberton are now just two points behind Bourne SC B, who sit joint top of the table after whitewashing hosts Services D 6-0.

At the other end of the table, Consti C finally toasted their first win of the campaign.

It came in an all-club affair, as they defeated Consti D 5-1. Colin Nelson (R14), Pat Bowman (R21), John Walker (R7) and John Batterham (R14) did the business for the C side at the seventh time of asking.
