Long Sutton’s sidecar driver Scott Parnell was delighted with the performance at Silverstone.
Having decided to concentrate on the British Motorcycle Racing Club’s championship instead of the Formula Two British Championship due to shortage of funds, he knew that he would be able to get a large amount of track time in a very competitive event.
With his passenger Adam Christie from Beverley, the team were treated by the club who had secured the Inter-national Wing so they had the garages normally only used by the likes of Formula One stars Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button.
They were racing against Adam’s twin brother Tom who is a passenger for their dad Simon.
They had two six-lap races on Saturday and two nine-lap races on Sunday.
Parnell and Christie had qualified in a very strong sixth place.
In Saturday’s two races they had second and third place with Adam’s brother and dad taking two wins.
Sunday was an even better day for the SMP team with a first and a second place.
Simon and Tom had to retire in one race and were fourth in the second race.
Parnell admitted: “I was delighted with the team’s weekend performance.
“The sidecar is just about how we want it handling wise and it showed in the improvement in times.”
