Families are being invited to try their hands at sailing at a free open day in Spalding this Sunday.

Welland Yacht Club’s fun-filled annual open day runs from 11.30am to 4pm and promises to offer something for everyone, whether you are a complete novice or are looking to get back into the sport.

You can get a first taste of sailing with one of the club’s experienced members, enjoy getting to grips with one of the club’s own boats (weather permitting) or simply sample the social side of what life at the club can offer.

Just bring a change of clothes, soft-soled shoes and waterproofs and the club will supply everything else you need. Refreshments will be available at the Cradge Bank club (PE11 3AA).

Welland YC is a recognised RYA training centre, meaning it conforms to the highest standards of quality and safety.

A spokesman said: “If you already know you want to learn to sail, and can’t wait to start participating in an amazing outdoor sport where real life really does get left on the shore, Welland YC is running a wide range of adult and junior RYA learn to sail training courses this year.”

The club’s Junior Sailing Club (Sundays 9.30am-11am) provides weekly sessions designed at introducing anyone aged under 16 into the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme in fun, safe sessions.

Meanwhile, Welland also runs beginner and intermediate dinghy sailing courses as well as seamanship and powerboat training for adults.
