Ryder Cup spirit on show at Tydd

Tydd St Giles Golf and Country Club recently hosted their first Captain versus Management ‘Ryder Cup’ competition.

The event was played in true Ryder Cup spirit, with a fiecely competitive edge,

The opening session ended with the captain’s team leading 5-4 going into the afternoon singles. Despite a couple of big wins for the management team, with Luke Rowell winning 9&8 and Daniel Newell 8&6, they lost the second session 9½-8½, the captain’s team winning 14½-12½ overall.

Club captain Neil John said he hoped it would become an annual event.

l In a seniors’ Stableford trophy competition, Division One winner was Brian Newby with 38 points, with Gerry Sherriff second on 37 and Noel Bratt third with 36. Division Two winner was Dave Morris on 40 points, ahead of Ken Walker (38) and Russell Doy (38). Division Three winner was Geoff Chappell 37.
