POOL wizard Matt Goodale just missed out on glory at the Barcelo Open final in Leicester.
The Spalding ace stormed through four rounds en route to booking a clash with Sam Jeffery at the Barcelo Hinckley Island Hotel event.
Jeffery, who beat Woadman’s Arms ace Shane Balding 6-3 in the last 16, was just too strong for Goodale and took the final 7-4.
Still, a £600 runners-up prize softened the blow of the defeat for the South Holland ace, who beat Dave Belcher 6-1 in the semi-final.
Also falling victim to Goodale were William Anderson (6-3), Kevin Smith (6-3) and Steve Prince (6-4).
Also competing at the UK Pool Tour event was Spalding and District Snooker League player Jason Bates.
A member of the tour, Bourne’s Bates was eligible for the ‘Challenge Two’ competition.
He reached the last four of the tough tournament, before bowing out 5-2 against John Strange, who went on to lose the final 6-3 against Simon Ward.
Meanwhile, Goodale teamed with tour player David Roblin in the team event – and they went all the way to the semi-finals, banking the Spalding star another £200.
Goodale said: “I’ve got an expensive wedding to pay for, so the prize money will come in really handy!”
