EXCITING teenager Aaron Williamson shrugged off a tricky start to clinch a podium at Brands Hatch on Sunday.
The 18-year driver from Holbeach Drove picked up an encouraging third place in the G50 class in the final race of the weekend.
After a disappointing first race, which saw Williamson retire due to mechanical problems, he managed fourth place in race two and then the eagerly awaited podium in the finale.
Williamson, who is sponsored by Peterborough Waste Management finished third in the Ginetta Junior Championship in 2009 and moved up to the Ginetta G50 cup last season.
He said “I am really pleased to have started the season so well.
“I wasn’t sure if I’d be racing at all this season due to financial constraints but I’m hopeful that I can secure further sponsorship in order to compete for the remainder of the season”
New for 2011 is the Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup which incorporates the G50 with the brand new Ginetta G55.
The Ginetta G50 is powered by a Ford 3.5 litre V6 engine - which delivers 300 BHP.
The GT Supercup supports the British Touring Car Championship, placing it on the biggest stage possible in the UK, which is televised live on ITV4.
This season’s racing consists of 28 rounds which will take place over ten weekends between April and October.
The next round for BTCC and support races is at Donington Park this weekend and will be televised on Sunday 1 from 11am.
