Gavin Mills of Sutton St James is enjoying an excellent campaign in his debut season.
The 23-year-old, who began racing in motocross, is leading the Darley Moor Championship thanks to a win, two seconds and a third.
He also won round three of the EMRA (East Midland Racing Association) championship at Mallory Park in the formula 125 class.
Mills, who rides an aprilia rs 125, is following in the footsteps of father Nicholas who won the national classic motorcycle racing title in 1999.
He said: “My dad has been racing since he was a lad and I have grown up around the sport. It has always been in my life as I enjoy it so much.
“My first season in the 125cc class has gone better than expected.
“I hope to go up to the 400cc class next year but I am still learning my trade as a motorcycle racer.
“ I owe a big thanks to Gary Haythorn from Roffes Transport as he did the paint and prep work on my race bike free of charge and is a big motorcycle enthuiast himself.”
