Spalding Poachers 1st earned an important 7-1 success over Lincoln 2nd in East Women’s Hockey League Division 2NW on Saturday.

Having fallen behind early on, Kelly Tuplin and Tori Needham scored to make it 2-1 to the Poachers, before Kelly Slater and Tuplin made it 4-1.

Further goals from Rachel Perkins, Slater and Jaqui Hunter rounded off the rout at Glen Park.

In the same division, Long Sutton Ladies’ 1st came just up just short against runaway league leaders Letchworth 1st.

Fiona Gray and a stunner from player-of-the-match Leanne Woodhead did put Sutton 2-0 up early on, but the unbeaten leaders turned that around with three unanswered strikes to grab a 3-2 victory.

Elsewhere, Long Sutton 2nd smashed Bourne/Deeping 2nd 8-1 in Division 3NW (N).

Emma Howell led the charge with a four-goal salvo, while the ever-impressive Rebecca Kierman also grabbed a hat-trick. Lisa Baker was the other Sutton scorer.

Also in Division 3NW (N), Spalding Poachers 2nd are still looking for a first win after a depleted side went down 7-0 to Wisbech 2nd.
