Spalding Poachers 2nd were the big winners in East Women’s Hockey League last week with a fine 5-3 success at Woodhall Spa Ladies’ 1st.

Two deflected goals put Spa 2-0 up in the Division 3NW (N) tie, but AJ Bunyan (2), Lilly Dobbs, Lucy Simpson and Eva Keyes notched to complete a storming comeback.

Up in Division 2NW, Spalding Poachers 1st had a tougher time of it against St Neots Ladies’ 1st. In what was a clash between two mid-table teams, player-of-the-match Becky Warr was beaten by a solitary second-half strike as Poachers went down 1-0.

In the same division, draw specialists Long Sutton Ladies’ 1st were at again as they were held 1-1 by Alford Ladies’ 1st. Hannah Greenacre’s neat finish had given Sutton a half-time lead, but they shipped a goal after the break to make it six draws for the season.

Back in Division 3NW (N), Long Sutton Ladies’ 2nd slipped to a 5-1 defeat against Skegness Ladies’ 1st.

A trademark finish from Millie Lamming after the break gave the young Sutton side a slice of consolation.
