Former England player Matt Taylor and his team of experienced coaches put around 50 junior members of Spalding and other local clubs through their paces during a two-day camp at Glen Park, Surfleet.

The players learnt a
variety of new and innovative
skills as well as mastering core and advanced skills through progressive skills exercises.

They were split into four countries and earned points throughout the skills exercises and competitive games with the winning country being awarded special prizes.

Individual awards for outstanding performances at the camp were presented to George Halgarth for the junior section and Hattie Needham in the seniors.

The dates for the 2015 camp have been set as Thursday and Friday, August 13 and 14, a week earlier than this year to avoid clashing with England Hockey’s Regional Performance Centre sessions.

n Spalding Hockey Club’s popular Saturday morning junior coaching resumes on September 6 (9.15 to 10.45am) at Glen Park.

The sessions are for boys and girls aged from five to 14 and players of all abilities
including complete beginners will be welcome.

The club have also linked up with Next Level Coaching headed by Spalding men’s first team striker Stuart Cunnington and Lincolnshire player Ben Read.

The team will add further strength to the current experienced coaching staff at the club as they aim to provide top quality coaching for promising young players.

The club have run sessions
on Wednesday mornings throughout August and are
anticipating an excellent
season for the juniors who will participate in the Lincolnshire Mixed Leagues at under-
12 and under-14 age levels.

The club are also working on providing competitive
hockey for under-10 and
under-8 teams this season.

The cost, to cover pitch hire and equipment costs, for the Saturday morning sessions is £3 per week or £30 for the 15-week programme up to the Christmas break on
December 13. Players are asked to wear suitable trainers, shinpads and playing kit. Sticks can be provided.
