Spalding Cycling Club’s second claim member Jake Norton blasted to two victories in as many days.
The talented youngster, riding for Sherwood Pines SRAM RT, was the first under-14 in the Notts and Derby League before winning the youths race in the Lincs Cyclo-Cross League 24 hours later.
Norton was one of three Spalding members in action in the Notts and Derby League, finishing 11th overall out of 77.
Matt Ellis, also riding for Sherwood Pines SRAM RT, was fifth with Cameron Neilson 45th.
A day later at Sproxton, Norton blasted to victory by eight seconds.
Two other Spalding members were in that race, fellow under-14 rider Neilson finishing nearly seven minutes back in eighth with Thomas Webster 11th overall and third under-16 one lap behind.
Spalding’s under-12s provided another determined display with Bryn Richards taking an early lead.
He set a fast pace before fading in the closing stages, eventually finishing third out of 44.
Richards crossed the line 40 seconds behind the winner and 17 seconds shy of the runner-up.
Ben Norton took a fine fifth, 1:42 down on the winner, and his consistent top-five performances make him one to watch next season when others move up to the next age group.
Making up the Spalding contingent, Molly Peel and Emily Richards competed in the under-12 girls’ event, eventually finishing ninth and tenth respectively but one lap down having chased hard to get back into the race after a crash.
The seniors, veterans, juniors and women’s race had a field of 115 riders in a fast and furious race with the Spalding contingent led home by Andy Bowser in a creditable 62nd place.
He was followed home by Gareth Richards (80th) and Chris Peel (82nd), Tom Webster (92nd) and Chris Bettinson (106th).
