Matt Whyers is one step closer to competing with the world’s best bowlers after winning the UK Masters singles tournament in Erewash.
The tournament, organised by the Professional Bowls Association, allows players to compete for the coveted Tour Card, which gives the holder qualification to the World Bowls Tour televised events.
As a result, Spalding Indoor Bowls Club’s Whyers will compete in the finals in May.
He beat Welsh international Rob Chisholm, Scots star Chris Carswell and Trev Coumb en route to the final.
There he met Neil Smith from England. Whyers started well and never looked back, claiming the title and maintaining his hopes of qualifying for the televised events next year.
